SPECIAL PROJECTS
SPECIAL PROGRAMMING FOR VISUALIZATION
Graphic presentation of the relative abundance of major ions is very useful in the investigation of groundwater contamination. For example: Buffalo Geological uses Durov diagrams to investigate impacts to water quality at solid waste disposal sites.

Advantages to the Durov diagram are that additional parameters can be plotted on secondary axes thereby enhancing interpretive value. Natural variations in background water quality are easily identified and subtle effects of contamination can be seen. Seasonal precipitation effects on groundwater chemistry are discernable. Plume stability is verified. Long term ionic changes can be tracked.
Buffalo Geological creates Durov, Piper, Stiff and virtually any water quality diagrams via proprietary programming. We provide diagrams on a job-shop basis for other consultant's projects.
EQUIPMENT DESIGN AND FABRICATION
Buffalo Geological Consulting maintains complete machining capabilities for immediate repair, modification or fabrication of custom parts or devices. We are expert in making customized pneumatic powered equipment for such environmental tasks as sample collection, free-product removal, monitoring well development, etc.
All our manufactured equipment is designed for remote deployment in harsh environments miles from support facilities - and then proven rugged in the field.
Examples:
Buffalo designed and manufactures a totally pneumatic-powered controller to run bladder pumps across the full spectrum of pressures involved with maximum rate purging and low flow sampling. All components fit in a handy Pelicantm 1200 case. The controller solves a number of timing and durability problems encountered with typical commercial units. This controller can also operate gas displacement well development pumps.

We have built all-pneumatic motors to drive Masterflextm peristaltic pump heads. Our motors operate on minimum air pressure and speeds can be varied from 0 to 200 RPM to create laminar flow conditions at the outlet. Certain designs incorporate variable torque for additional flexibility in the field.
Buffalo invented the PUMPER. Built around a rugged aluminum extrusion, the PUMPER is designed to automate the up and down pumping action required by WaTerratm or inertial type sampling apparatus. The PUMPER is powered by compressed air or nitrogen. There are no electric components or batteries to fail. The pump stroke is adjustable in increments up to 6 inches. Variable speed control is achieved through adjustment of line pressure with independent adjustments for the up and down stroke force and speed. All critical parts are industry-proven components manufactured from stainless steel and/or brass for long service in harsh environments.
OIL AND GAS EXPLORATION AND RESEARCH
The firm has full capabilities to conduct prospect generation for and evaluation of petroleum objectives. Robert Mansfield has extensive exploration experience in the Gulf Coast province generating prospects from Wilcox to Norphlet.
LOWER TUSCALOOSA DIGITAL RESEARCH PROJECT
Buffalo Geological Consulting owns
a specialized library of
digitized electric
logs located in 36 contiguous townships
across the heart of the Lower
Tuscaloosa trend in Mississippi. The
database consists of approximately one
million curve feet of SP and deep
resistivity curves hand-digitized from
the original electric logs on a two foot
basis over the Lower tuscaloosa interval.
The purpose of the project is to research
computer-assisted parameter extraction
and improve mapping efficiency. Programs to query the database can quickly be written to extract standard and esoteric mapping parameters. With the data in digital format, the computer can be programmed to extract virtually any information of exploratory interest. Rarely used mapping parameters such as entropy functions, facies departure, multi-partite, standard deviation, etc., can be extracted and posted in a fraction of the time of manual methods.
